Improvements Highlight Wolfpack Howl Season Opener

Sunday, August 31 2014 - Wolfpack Howl Season Opener - Daisy Mora

The team kicked off their season with a "practice" meet hosted by the St. Ignatius boys' team on August 30th. The girls ran a 2-mile race on the north side of Washington Park.

Senior captain Daisy Mora led the team with a school record, 35-second victory in the girls' competition in 12:30. Sophomore varsity returnees Emma Wilson and Rachel Jones followed in 13:05 and 13:15, respectively. Sophomore newcomer Isabel Leadbeater finished next in 13:24. Mora, Wilson, Jones and Leadbeater's times all placed them on the top 10 list for 2 mile performances in Jones history.

Senior Jennifer Geary, sophomore Ciara Greene and junior Alicia Wala rounded out the top 7, while freshman Grace Goodall enjoyed an excellent debut finishing as the team's eighth runner, closely followed by sophomore Taylor Mazique.

Sophomores Samantha Nathan, Alexandra Kruse, Virginia Trickey, Claire Hallman, Jessica Li, and Lucy Harper all successfully completed their first high school cross country race, as did freshmen Abigail Barton, Priya Charles, and Hannah Barton.

The true highlight of the meet, however, was the vast improvement of the entire team from this point last year. Of athletes who fully participated in winter and summer training, the improvements ranged from 1:20 to 3:52.
